About us

Here at Pretending to Read we are a community of book lovers who come together to discuss, debate books via virtual and/or in person book clubs.

It is an hour a month to escape everyday life, good company and good for the soul.  It is great fun to jump out of your comfort zone and have like minded people to discuss books with.

Our book clubs are friendly and open to all, we explore all genres and every member has the opportunity to choose a book for the group. You can participate as little or as much as you would like.

We have a Pretending to Read-Readers group so if you prefer to message rather than video call we can chat to you on there. There are many ways to connect with us and we are flexible.

We also have our Pretending to Read-Little Edition, which is here to engage young readers and inspire parents/caregivers on how to encourage and create a love of reading. We will be hosting online chats and meet ups to come together and share ideas.

We believe in sharing books that help children cope with their emotions. Mental health is one of the biggest growing concerns around children and young adults and Little Edition is a safe space for them to explore their emotions in a healthy way and boost their emotional intelligence- we will be looking into books lists and recommendations for teens.

We also offer virtual reading sessions and will be hosting children’s book clubs with badges and prizes to keep children of all ages engaged.

We grew up hearing “if you can read, you can do anything” and that is what drives us to encourage a love of reading.
